Happy Christmas and Merry Hanukkah!

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Let’s all try to get along for a day! My personal suggestions for the day include eating too much, having too much fun with family and friends, and indulging in an excess of sensory treats of all kinds.

Rest from your normal labors. Count your blessings whatever they may be. If you have traditions, honor them but do not be imprisoned by them. Celebrate whatever there is to celebrate in your life and the lives of the people you love.

Exchange gifts, even if only the gifts of your presence and well wishes. If possible, extend the merriment through the week until New Year’s Day or for the traditional eight days. Remember that the season’s celebrations are meant to remind that miracles are possible and do occur – even in the dark of winter. Even, and especially, when it seems they are impossible.

And then, after all the eating and the gratitude, take a moment to wish us all well for the coming year. Let’s hope the new year is as good as we all can possibly make it.

And if any of that is deep and heavy reverence for the possibilities of life are too taxing, you can check out this video on the history of gingerbread during the season.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
