Yup, predatory fees aren’t enough for them. Financing predatory lenders isn’t enough for them. Ripping people off with fake accounts isn’t enough for them. Now the largest US banks are abandoning the ‘bare minimum’ to keep the planet habitable for human beings. The bare minimum.
This alarms environmentalists and climate activists and so on. But of course it’s going to alarm them. They’re in the business of being alarmed.
The people who are going to be affected by what the large US banks do, though, is you. Because their investment policies are going to continue to make the very richest people richer and people like you poorer. That’s what it’s all about. The rich doing everything they can to make not-rich people poorer and poorer. It’s the poverty agenda.
It’s couched as a climate change issue. Well, that’s not entirely wrong. But the underlying issue is not climate change. It’s poverty. The absolute mania that large businesses (around the world not just in the US) have for making rich people richer and everyone else (every single other person) poorer.
There’s not a whole lot you can do about this.
But there are 2 things you can do.
Option #1 is not super convenient but probably important and socially responsible. Deprive these big 4 banks of your business. Go local and use community banking. Local and community banks just do not have the resources to fuck over everyone else on the planet. You need gigantic sums of money to do that and your locally owned bank doesn’t have gigantic sums of money.
You’ll probably get a better banking experience too.
There are also, for the moment, online banks that pay better interest on savings and have lower fees that also don’t have the resources or the current inclination to screw you over the way Jamie Dimon and Chase do. You can try those banks as well.
Depriving the big asshole banks of your business is one way you can rob the banks that are robbing you.
The other way is to howl bloody murder. You need to speak up. Condemn them. Be vocal. Be passionate. Tell them to go fuck themselves or whatever you’d like to say.
One of the main reasons that the big banks are backing off their public (and not usually honored) commitments to not destroy the entire planet is because the far right is howling bloody murder.
The poverty agenda (represented in the US by the Republican party) is LOUD. The people who want to ensure that the system stays rigged and that nobody ever gets a chance at the so-called American dream are all-caps LOUD.
Regular people are not that loud. GET LOUD!
